Fruit Fest
September 25, 2021Food Not Bombs served a meal today with fruit collection food! We served apple fritter, dehydrated apples, and other food at Boyle Street Community Services. 3 volunteers served about 40 people. Good job team!
We had the second edition of Food Not Bombs YEG Orientation today, proving the growth of our organisation! Usually we only send the orientation doc one at a time, but when we have an influx of new members at the same time, we orient them all together. It is good news when we have so many people that we need to book a group session. Awesome work, team!
FNB YEG is working on building a campaign to help houseless people survive the winter!
We will be working on collecting donations of warm clothing, such as coats and socks, as well as tents and sleeping bags.

Today, a member of FNB YEG and her comrade drove down to Wetaskiwin to deliver much-needed supplies such as food and menstrual products to Rock Soup Greenhouse and Food Bank, which serves Wetaskiwin's homeless community. Good work, team!
For today's meal, we had three members serve 40 people with vegan burgers, pasta, muffins, and water.
Members had a bit extra produce to use up so it was cooked into a bean stew, served with potato salad and vegan muffins. We served about 30 portions from 11:00am-11:30am. It was good to see so many smiling faces and to be outside in the nice weather.
Today's meal: Spinach and cashew-ricotta cannelloni glazed with homemade marinara with a drizzle of vegan mushroom Alfredo sauce, with a side of fresh-picked roasted zucchini parmesan served with garlic bread and solidarity. Nurses, who have been risking their lives to save lives, should be eating better than Jason fucking Kenney. Today, they will be. The zucchinis were grown in our local collective garden, just blocks away from the picket.
We served about 25-30 portions of pasta outside of Boyle Street Community Services. We were also joined by a community member who was kind enough to cook the pasta and help serve. Welcome to our new member! We are excited to have your help 🎉
For our meal today, some members picked a zucchini grown in our collective garden and baked a chocolate zucchini cake. They then delivered it to other members waiting downtown who served it outside of Boyle Street Community Services.
A few of our members went out this morning to serve peanut butter and jam sandwhiches and water to folks on the streets. We handed out about 40 sandwhiches and about as many water bottles.
Some of our members have noticed these EPS posters. Do not trust the cops to tell you your rights. It is in their best interest for you not to know your full rights when dealing with them. Click here for a citizens guide to dealing with the police produced by the CCLA.
For National Day of Awareness for MMIW, we served hot chocolate for an event organized by Bear Clan Patrol.
Members of Food Not Bombs teamed up with Our Initiative to serve meals to unhoused folk in downtown Edmonton. The meal went amazing. We served all 40 meals, and saw lots of happy faces!
We served cake, donuts, and a hot meal to folk downtown as the first of our new monthly meals. All went well and we are planning on continuing to serve regular meals downtown.
